BALLET

Ballet is an artistic dance form performed to music using precise and highly formalized steps and gestures.  Classical Ballet, which originated in Renaissance Italy and established its present form during the 19th century, is characterized by light, graceful movements.

BALLET FOUNDATIONS

This informal and fun ballet class focuses on teaching the musical theatre student and/or athlete the foundations of ballet to improve their overall dance technique.  In this class you do not need to wear traditional ballet clothes.  Please dress in fitted clothes.

BROADWAY

Broadway dance can be defined as the incorporation of ballet, jazz and modern dance styles with theater and singing. It stands out because the fusion of styles allows for unconventional movements.  The use of theater props such as canes, top hats and gloves is also very popular in Broadway styles, allowing  a variety of movements previously unexplored in theater or dance productions.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.  Due to its technical similarities it is often perceived to be closely related to modern dance and other classical concert dance styles.

HIP HOP

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles.  It's a very energetic form of dancing with roots in jazz, rock, tap, American and Latino cultures.  It is unique in that it allows it's dancers to perform with freedom of movement and adding in their own personalities.

JAZZ

Jazz dance is a form of dance that is matched to the rhythms and techniques of jazz music in the early part of the 20th century.  This style showcases a dancer's individual style and originality with energetic choreography, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns (Note: Jazz shoes are required for this class).

TAP

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion.  (Note: Tap shoes (traditional taps, jazz taps or character taps) are required for this class).
